Who is WASCLA?

WASCLA is an education and advocacy organization whose mission is to eliminate language barriers that prevent Washington residents from accessing essential services. We promote equity in communication for immigrants, refugees, and individuals who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing. WASCLA provides policy input on language access rights and responsibilities and how to create language assistance services that meet community needs; provides consultation and training on language access services; hosts a statewide Interpreter and Translator directory;and other activities to promote robust language access services.

"I Speak" Cards
The Tools for Health project offers a collection of materials about language services in healthcare, in the 31 most-commonly spoken languages in Washington. The toolkit includes an “ISpeak” card for patients to bring with them when seeking care which identifies the language they speak, and a “Know Your Rights” flyer, along with information for healthcare providers.

While designed for use in healthcare settings, the ISpeak cards can be used by LEP individuals in a variety of settings. All Tools for Health materials are available for free download.
